Draw from your own research to compose an argumentative paragraph (about 200 words) that addresses your research question.
An effective paragraph will:
- make a clear and cohesive argument addressing the prompt detailed above
- Begin with a topic sentence effectively framing the idea that your paragraph will develop
- establish the proper historical context (previous events, notable people, significant cultural trends, important ideas) necessary for the reader to understand your argument
- use at least two pieces of specific, illuminating evidence supporting the tenets of paper’s argument
- explain the significance of each piece of evidence and analyze their contribution to the argument
- Include proper footnote citations in Chicago style to indicate where the evidence is located in the book
- Reflect improvements made after incorporating feedback from the draft
Grading
You will receive an individual grade for the writing component. As the following rubric indicates, you will be graded on the following historical skills: crafting an argument, creating strong topic sentences, conveying relevant context, supporting your opinion with appropriate evidence, analyzing evidence, creating accurate footnotes, and incorporating feedback.
