Information Resources

The Library offers members of the Berkeley Carroll School access to our large collection of research resources and tools. This includes free digital access to The Atlantic and The New York Times (includes NYTimes Cooking), the NY Times Games, and Flipster's Online Magazine Newsstand. Follow the instructions below to set up your account and get your free access.

 

The libraries' group subscription to The Atlantic provides access to all of The Atlantic anytime, anywhere!

To activate your free Atlantic access:

  1. Go to https://theatlantic.com/berkeleycarroll-login/ 
  2. Select your BC Google account
  3. Sign in with your Google login credentials 

 

For app users, follow these instructions:

  1. Download the app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap the Settings button at the top-right of the Today screen.
  3. Select “Sign In” and scroll down to “Sign in through your institution.”
  4. Find your institution from the dropdown list and sign in with your credentials.
  5. Enable push notifications for essential stories, and start exploring the app.

Access to The Atlantic gives you more than just news. Discover enrichment for every part of your academic life. Berkeley Carroll’s group subscription unlocks unlimited access to everything at theatlantic.com for faculty, staff, and students in grades 9-12. This includes the entire archive (dating back to its founding in 1857), newsletters, narrated articles, games, and much more. Access NYTimes.com

New Yourk Time Advertisement

Berkeley Carroll students (grades 7-12), faculty, and staff have full complimentary access to NYTimes.com and NYT mobile apps, thanks to our school-wide library subscription. We encourage you to take advantage of the world-class journalism of The New York Times to enrich your selection of reading materials and your educational experience.

How to Create Your NYTimes.com Account

Note: You must be on campus or connected to your school’s network to activate your access. You cannot activate your Pass while off campus or via a proxy server.

On Campus

  1. Go to nytimes.com/grouppass to grab a pass with IP authentication and follow these instructions:
  2. Select "Create Account"  
  3. Use your Berkeley Carroll email address to fill out the Sign Up form.

Student Instructions

  • Select Student
  • Enter your graduation year 
  • You'll then see an expiration date of December 31 of the year you graduate.
  • Follow the prompts to complete your registration.

Faculty Instructions

  • Select Faculty 
  • You'll then see an expiration date a year from today. Be sure to set a calendar reminder to repeat this process in a year!
  • Follow the prompts to complete your registration.

 

When you see the "Start Your Access" screen, you have successfully registered.

Please note:  You will need to repeat these steps to renew your free subscription each year. Set a calendar reminder to be notified when your pass will expire. 

 

Returning Users

  • Once you have activated your account, you can log into your account from any computer at NYTimes.com.

Mobile Apps

  • To download your free NYTimes app for IOS or Android devices and log in on all your devices go to  Help - NYTimes.com

How to Access Games

Get access to the complete collection of New York Times Games, for faculty, staff, and students in grades 9-12, courtesy of BC Libraries. Be on the lookout in the first few weeks of school for a welcome email from NYT Group Subscriptions. Instructions for accessing your account will be included in that email. 

You can also contact library staff at bcslibrary@berkeleycarroll.org if you would like a games account or if you have any issues or questions. As always, if you are unsure whether an email is legitimate, don’t hesitate to reach out to helpdesk.

Flipster Online Newsstand

Select any magazine to view in digital format.

To access off-campus, enter the username & password found on the Database Passwords page.

Available Titles:

How to Use Flipster on a computer

  1. Go to BC's Flipster Newsstand
  2. Enter BC's Flipster User ID and Password.
  3. Search for titles, browse Categories, or scroll through the Latest Issues or All Magazines available. When you find a magazine that you want to read, click on the cover to open it.
  4. Use the arrows to navigate. If you click on All Issues on the right-hand side, you can search the magazine, look at specific pages, or see back issues.

How to Use Flipster on a phone or tablet

  1. Download the Flipster app for your iOS or Android device.
  2. Open the app and select Get Started.
  3. Search for the "Berkeley Carroll School". Enter BC's Flipster User ID and Password and select Login.
  4. Browse the list of magazines, search for a specific magazine or choose from the list of Categories. When you find a magazine that you want to read, tap on the cover to open the detail page.
  5. Select download to download the current issue. To download a back issue, use the download icon to the right of the date for that issue.
  6. After downloading, the title will appear under My Shelf.
  7. Tap the cover to open the magazine. Swipe your finger left or right to flip through the pages.
  8. Tap the icon in the upper right-hand corner to see the table of contents with links to every article.
  9. Tap My Shelf to return to your library of magazines in the app.
